Cloisonné is the shaping of thin wires onto a brass or copper vessel, the thin wire is attached by soldering to the metal vessel. The space between the wire is then filled with the richly coloured enamels that give each Cloisonné its unique appearance, the Cloisonné is then kiln fired and polished to a smooth and lustrous finish.

Cremation urns are believed to be among the earliest Cloisonné objects produced by the Chinese.
